Spa 6 hours

theoretical framework thesis introduction go to link The RTCC team took 3 cars to Spa for the 6 Hour meeting, Sam Spindlow’s 1961 +4 for the HSCC races, Roger Whiteside’s newly acquired Cooper Monaco for the Legends 1 hour and Roger’s 1964 4/4 1500 ‘Pearl’ for the 6 Hour itself, the 3 driver line up comprising Roger, Richard and Spa debutant Phill Thomas.  Sam and Roger both thoroughly enjoyed their Saturday morning races in lovely Autumn sunshine.  By the time the 6 Hour started at 4pm however the clouds were gathering and just before 5pm the heavens opened; Phill coped very well with the treacherous conditions, experiencing 3 safety car periods in his 2 hour stint, handing over to Roger at 6.15.  The rain eased at this point and Roger was lapping quicker and quicker before coming in for fuel, our one and only pit stop.  He handed over to Richard in almost total darkness and renewed rain, punctuated with a violent thunderstorm with sheet lightning, which Richard found ruined his night vision on a frequent basis!  To make matters worse around 9.15 fog started to form on the fastest part of the circuit from Blanchimont down to the Bus Stop Chicane, eventually getting so thick that the race was red flagged at about 9.45, and not restarted.  Richard was relieved to bring Pearl  back to the pits unmarked, she ran superbly throughout.  The team were happy to have finished 60th overall and 5th in class out of 108 starters.  A gruelling race indeed!
